I have always loved reading. When I decided to become an educator, I knew that I wanted to specialize in reading with the hope of igniting children with a passion and love for all things literacy related. Though I enjoy engaging with young LITs, there was still something missing for me. I also wanted to engage with adult readers, so I started my first book club, The LIT Lounge where I met Dewana. Our small, local, book club has grown into a dream come true...LIT JAVA Coffee & Books! We are so excited to engage with you and provide you with LIT books, experiences, drinks, and events!

My love for reading goes back to the Scholastic book fairs in elementary school. I would look forward to these events every year and save money so I can buy all of the Baby-Sitters Club books, Fear Street Books, Goosebumps....I wanted all of the books. My younger sister and I connected over books and I didn’t realize it then but we were having our own book club meetings at the young age of 10 to discuss books as we finished them. That love for reading grew as I got older. I was excited to join different books clubs as an adult and connect with people all over the world over our love of reading. It was a dream come true when I found someone in a book club with that same passion as me and we decided to stop ignoring what was deeply rooted inside us and created LIT Java. I hope we can create LIT experiences for all that has that same passion. Thanks for making our dream become reality!

At LIT Java Coffee & Books, we believe that books are powerful tools with the capability to bring people together, dispel misconceptions, and challenge thinking . We are proud to be your community bookstore, serving the people of our town with a wide selection of books in a welcoming atmosphere.

We look forward to bringing the community together through curated literary experiences such as:

- a plethora of children-focused events.
We are determined to pouring back into our community that has supported and encouraged us along this journey.
Our commitment to cultural diversity is rooted in our experiences as children. Unfortunately, we rarely saw ourselves reflected in the pages of books we read as children. We do not want any child to walk into our store and have the same experience. Therefore, we aim for everyone especially children, to see themselves reflected in the stories on the shelves, no matter what cultural background they come from. We want them to see that they can be heroes and heroines in their own stories. We desire that not only will they gain an appreciation of their own cultural background, but that they will also learn about other cultures. We believe that learning about other cultures and traditions is the primary way to eradicate ignorance, thus promoting cultural awareness and understanding. We look forward to celebrating the diversity that is represented in Pearland, which has been hailed as one of the most diverse cities in America.
We'd love for LIT Java Coffee & Books to be a place where like and unlike-minded people can come, connect and learn about each other. We look forward to providing the space and coffee for collaborations to be made and conversations to be had.
